Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the BBGV Board I wish all of you a successful and healthy New Year.
2011 was a challenging year for companies but the BBGV continues to be busy with a full schedule of business and networking events. The BBGV hosted the BiSEA (Britain in South East Asia) conference in Ho Chi Minh City in June - sharing lessons learned and a strengthening the relationship with other British Business Chambers in the region. The year also saw the launch of the BBGV's new website and I hope you are all now regular visitors.
A priority for 2012 will be the identification of suitable funding resources to support the BBGV's charity programme. In recent years over 90% of our charitable revenues have come from our annual Fun Run. The Run's unfortunate absence from the schedule in 2011, owing to the difficulties BBGV experienced in obtaining the necessary approvals, means that the BBGV have only very limited resources to support charitable activities next year until additional fund raising occurs (do let us know if you have any fund-raising ideas or would like to help with our fund-raising activities)
During 2012 BBGV will be conducting an on-line member survey to better understand our member's needs and priorities. We will be sending out further details shortly. In the meantime if you have any topics that you feel we should be looking into then please contact Jakki Lydall and we will consider covering them through the survey questions.
New Board members were elected with Steve Banner looking after business events, Peter Simson taking charge of social events both based in Ha Noi and Tim Mullet joining at the AGM based in HCMC. At the AGM, Charles Gregory, who has been a Board member for 2 years, was elected to the role of Vice Chairman based in Ha Noi, where he will be working hard to continue the close relationship we have developed with the British Embassy and Vietnamese government institutions.
I would like to take a moment to thank Patrick Regis who has recently stepped down as Chair of the BBGV, for his personal efforts over the past 4 years and I am both pleased and personally relieved that he will continue as Board member. I would also like to record the sterling efforts of Alun Thomas, who recently retired from the Board after 8 years of service on the Board, including many years of service on the Charity Committee
Once again, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Dragon I would like to wish you all a wonderful Tet holiday.
Chúc mừng năm mới
Regards,
Nick Holder
