On Thursday 3 November 2011, BVIS was officially opened by Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, the UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and Ong Hua Ngoc Thuan, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee.
As Vietnam continues to evolve and change so do the types of educational programmes needed to educate the future business leaders of the country. Even though good international schools have high academic standards, one often hears Vietnamese parents express concerns about their children losing touch with what it means to be Vietnamese, because they are in an international environment all day. Parents are also aware that the local high school system is geared to universities within Vietnam and is not a satisfactory preparation for continued studies overseas.
As a response to this issue, the newest member of the BIS Group of Schools, the British Vietnamese International School (BVIS), is reproducing the same high quality international education model as its established sister school, the British International School (BIS), but fully integrated within the curriculum is the deliberate nurturing and safeguarding of Vietnamese language, culture and heritage. The teaching of Vietnamese History, Geography and Literature in Vietnamese is seamlessly blended into the British education system producing our unique integrated model which serves as an excellent foundation for IGCSE and A level studies.
On graduation from BVIS, students will have achieved true bi-lingual proficiency in Vietnamese and English and will also be educated to an international standard allowing students admission to leading universities throughout the world. At the same time they will maintain a deep rooted and authentic understanding of what it means to be Vietnamese. We believe that this is a unique educational mix that will, in the future, position BVIS graduating students as the business leaders for the country. We are confident that the BVIS graduating students will be Global Citizens with a world vision from a Vietnamese and British perspective – undoubtedly, the "Best of Both Worlds".
In order to ensure the same high quality teaching is available in both languages the BIS Group of Schools has been training Vietnamese teachers for the past three years. The Group employs two teacher trainers who oversee and guide teachers through the British PGCE qualification in association with the University of Sunderland.
This new school is the sister school of the well-established and highly respected British International School in Ho Chi Minh City. BIS has built its unbridled success on a commitment to providing exceptional facilities resourced to the highest level, using the latest technologies to enhance learning and hiring outstanding classroom teachers. BVIS has a similar template for success, although with a different fee structure in order to be able to make this unique educational model available to significant numbers of Vietnamese families.
The British Vietnamese International School, BVIS, opened in the Binh Chanh District, Saigon South in August 2011 with almost 350 students. The BIS Group of Schools has well advanced plans to open more dual language schools in Vietnam with one in Hanoi which will open in the near future.
